This event benefits the Schuylkill River Park Alliance in its effort to Complete The Trail making the Schuylkill River Trail the region's first Green Transportation & Recreation Corridor. Our other main activity is to monitor the installation of safe street level access to the Schuylkill River Park Trail and the construction of the Schuylkill River Parks Connector Bridge to promote a safe environment for all park users.
Extending the Trail from Locust to South Street
Schuylkill River Development Corporation has unveiled the conceptual design of the boardwalk it plans to build between Locust Street and the South Street Bridge. The slide show presented on November 17th is available here (3.2 MB pdf)
The boardwalk will be 50 feet out in the river to avoid the tree canopies that are along the embankment. It will connect to the South Street Bridge ramp (north side of bridge) and also connect to the river bank just south of a set of stairs being built from the Bridge on the south side of bridge.
The boardwalk will be a concrete surface, 15 feet wide and 4-9 feet high from the water (depending on the tide).
SRDC has $4 million of the $10 million construction cost identified and needs $6 million to complete the entire project.
Any comments on this design can be sent to erin.bolz@srdc.net

April and May Spring Clean Ups
Hundreds (hundreds!!!) of you came out on April 5th, a beautiful Saturday morning, to participate in Mayor Nutter's first City wide Philly Spring Clean Up at the Schuylkill River Park Trail on Schuylkill Banks. It was the biggest clean up ever and hundreds of bags of trash were collected from the running/bike path, river banks and all around the park. MANY THANKS to all of who came and pitch in to helped do such a massive job. Special thanks to the Streets Department for coming back to pick up every last bag, to Fairmount Park for helping organize our site, and to our partners SRDC and Friends of Schuylkill River Park for everything they did to make this entire event a great success. The park looks fantastic and Schuylkill River Park Alliance thanks everyone who expressed such civic pride for Philadelphia and the Schuylkill River Park Trail. You can see photos taken during the morning on our Picasa site here or click on our photo albums to the right.
